Gray Line San Francisco · San Francisco
A full-day coach trip from Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf with three winery tastings, fees paid, and free time on Sonoma Plaza. Pick it for ease: you don't drive, you don't book a single winery, and the Golden Gate Bridge comes thrown in.

Gray Line's coach leaves San Francisco at 8:40 a.m. from 478 Post Street near Union Square, or at 9:00 a.m. from 2805 Leavenworth Street by Fisherman's Wharf. You cross the Golden Gate Bridge with a photo stop, and a driver-guide covers the region's story on the way, from the Spanish missions to the Gold Rush. Expect eight to nine hours in total. Downtown Napa is about 50 miles from the city and the drive takes about an hour on a weekday, up to two at weekends, per Visit Napa Valley.
Three tastings are included, and the listing puts a value on them. They come from a set list: Artesa, Roche, B.R. Cohn, Jacuzzi, Madonna and Robledo. Know where those are. Artesa and Madonna Estate sit in the Napa side of Carneros, south of the city of Napa. Roche and Jacuzzi are in Sonoma County, and B.R. Cohn is in Glen Ellen in the Sonoma Valley. None of them is up the valley in Oakville, Rutherford or St. Helena.
Lunch is on you, during free time on Sonoma Plaza, with its cafes, shops and history. That is a good fit for a first taste of California wine country. If the Napa name on the ticket matters most to you, the wine trolley or the picnic tour taste further up the valley floor, but you have to get to Napa first.
Union Square (478 Post St) at 8:40 or Fisherman's Wharf (2805 Leavenworth St) at 9:00.

A tasting at the first of three wineries from the operator's list, with a look at how the wine is made.
Free time for lunch at your own cost, plus shops and the historic square.
